1000 Turtles Project Important Dates! How do I get Involved and what age do I need to be? Getting Involved is easy, just follow the steps below and save the important dates to your calendar! Making and knowing about Turtles is for all ages! STEP 1. Purchase a Turtle Making Kit from Gallery Kaiela at 137-139 High Street Shepparton. The cost of the kit includes instructions, clay and firing of your turtle and proceeds go to assist Gallery Kaiela Incorporated (Aboriginal Community Art Centre) and Turtles Australia. STEP 2. You can make your Turtle at home or wait and come to gallery Kaiela on 1 & 2 October in the School holidays and making your turtle with an Aboriginal artist. STEP 3. Bring your Turtle to Gallery Kaiela before the end of October to be fired, so that it is ready for the great ‘Turtle Muster’ at Gallery Kaiela on Sunday November 2 where your Turtle will be come part of one giant turtle art installation on the Gallery floor. STEP 4. ‘The Turtle Muster’ at Gallery Kaiela on Sunday November 2 from midday until 4pm. Come and see your Turtle become part of a giant art installation and also meet the researchers from Turtles Australia to learn about the scientific research into the three species of fresh water Turtles in this area. Learn how you can help look after the Turtles too. Also learn about why the Eastern Long Necked Turtle (Bayaderra) is so important to the Aboriginal people - Yorta Yorta of this area. There will be lots to get involved in and some take always for you also.
