Applications for two grants of $500 each, to support research into freshwater turtles, are now being sought. Also available to the successful applicants is the loan of equipment, including a number of cathedral nets, and the provision of experienced volunteers to assist with the field work.
These grants are open to any postgraduate or honours student carrying out original research into Australian freshwater turtles. All relevant research permits and ethics committee approvals are the responsibility of the applicant.
Applications can be for studies within any area within Australia but research in the following locations will receive preference:
Submissions must be made by 30/07/2015 and the successful applicant will be notified on 31/09/2015.
Applications are to be forwarded by email to turtles@iinet.net.au. The subject line should read ‘Turtles Australia 2015 grant application’ – followed by the applicant’s name.
Our organization can supply some equipment, and volunteers experienced in the capture and handling of turtles. Applications that utilize these resources will be given preference over others.
An article describing the research is to be submitted by each successful applicant for inclusion on Turtles Australia's website and in its journal. A second article is to be presented on completion of the research which describes all results and findings. The grant is also to be acknowledged when the results of the research are published by each student.
The successful applications will be determined by the selection board appointed by the Turtles Australia Inc.
