Benalla Lake Clean Up for Turtles (01 Mar 2020)

Lake Benalla and the surrounding waterways are inhabited by many native animals including the Platypus, Rakali (native water rat), fish and three species of fresh water turtles - the Eastern Long-necked Turtle, Broad-shelled Turtle and Murray Short-necked Turtle.

Many fresh water turtle species, including these three species, are in decline due to habitat degradation, pollution of our waterways and reduced water quality.

Turtles Australia Inc. and the Benalla Rural City Council are partners in a Lake Benalla clean-up paddle and a clean-up walk for turtles. The clean up will also benefit other aquatic animals that inhabit the Benalla Lake.

What to bring/wear: gloves, sun protection (hat, suitable clothing), enclosed shoes, water bottle, snacks, family and friends. To participate in the clean up paddle, you will need to bring your own canoe/kayak, paddle and safety vest.

All welcome.

Meet on the Lake Benalla Foreshore, opposite the Benalla Library, near the BBQ area. Look for the event registration table. Participants are required to register for the event on the day or via the CUA Day website. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
